[ Over a series of ten days, Dennis receives five messages, all printed on plain white paper, folded neatly, and tucked into five individually sealed envelopes. Each envelope has a number written very small and very neat in the top right hand corner in black ink.
The first message, in an envelope marked with a '2', reads:

( When I was older, I met a man. He loved me, and I loved him, but he never gave me the chance to tell him, he never gave me the time to figure it out. He went away.
I met a woman. She loved me before I loved her, and for a while we loved each other at the same time. I took something from her, something she loved, but I had no choice. She didn't understand why, couldn't see the larger picture, wouldn't understand that I was trying to save her. I ruined her without even trying. She left me. )( caesar cypher, offset 4. )]
[ The second envelope, marked with a '1' and delivered two days after the first, contains a message that reads:

( When I was young, my mother was the one person I loved the most. She was wild, but this world wasn't enough for her, or it was too much - I never figured it out. I wasn't enough or I was too much. She took me up to the roof to look at the stars, and one night she let me go. Catch a falling star, they say, but I was never a star, so nobody caught me.
She went away. )( morse code.) ]

( And then I met another man. Younger. Brave. Bold. Curious. I taught him as much as he taught me. I learned that it wasn't so hard to smile again, that it was easier when he was around. I learned that I need to open my eyes a little wider, to take a little more time to see the things that are right in front of me. )( binary code. ) ]
[ Another two days, and a fourth envelope is delivered, marked with a '3'. It reads:
( I met another woman. I married this one, because I wanted to do things right. I thought I was doing things right. I told her I loved her the moment I knew it. I gave her everything I could, everything she wanted, but it wasn't enough. It wasn't what she was after. I ruined her too. )( pigpen cypher. ) ]
[ On the tenth day, the final message is delivered, the envelope marked with a '5'. This message is handwritten in the same black ink used to number the envelope. The handwriting is... careful, precise, almost too neat like someone was trying to disguise their natural handwriting so as to not give themselves away too quickly.
But this envelope is damaged, the bottom left corner damp with water blown into the corridor by a brief sun shower. Some of the ink has run, but most of the message is still readable.
